Why Amber never listens
Voice logging is the thing we’re proudest of in Amber. It’s also the thing parents ask us about most: if I can talk to it, is it listening?
No. Amber doesn’t use your microphone, and it never asks for permission to.
How it works
When you say “Hey Siri, log a nappy in Amber”, it’s your phone’s assistant that hears you. The assistant works out what you asked for and hands Amber a short, structured command: log a nappy, wet. Amber never receives the recording.
Amber then does exactly what it would if you had tapped the button: it logs the entry on your phone first, so it works with no signal, and syncs it to your family when it can.
What Amber knows
Amber keeps what it needs to be your family’s record: the babies you add (a name and a date of birth), the feeds, sleeps and nappies you log, and who logged each one. Your family’s data is stored in the European Union, and only your family can see it.
The Amber apps contain no advertising, analytics or crash-reporting tools.
Why it matters
A baby tracker is used at home, at night, around a newborn. That isn’t a place for an always-on microphone, and we don’t think a tracker should need one. The assistant you already trust does the listening; Amber does the logging.
