How to use Amber

Everything you need to log a feed, a sleep or a nappy in a tap, or with your voice. Amber is in testing, so a few things below are marked as coming soon.

Get started

Sign in with Apple on an iPhone, with “Continue with Google” on Android, or with an email sign-in link on either. The email also has a 6-digit code you can type into the app instead of opening the link. There’s no password to remember.

Then open the Children tab and choose Add a baby: a name and a date of birth. Each baby has a Track switch. Tracked babies are the ones Amber offers when you log quickly or by voice. Turning tracking off never hides a baby’s history.

Log a feed

  1. On Home, choose Feed, then Left or Right.
  2. The feed’s timer runs from that moment, even if your phone locks or you close the app.
  3. Switch side moves to the other side. It’s still the same feed, so the whole session stays together.
  4. Stop ends the feed.

If your baby is asleep when you start a feed, Amber asks before ending the sleep (Stop and start). Amber never stops a feed or a sleep on its own.

Log a sleep

Choose Sleep, then Start a sleep. The timer shows how long your baby has been asleep. Choose Stop when they wake.

Log a nappy

Choose Nappy, then Wet, Dirty or Wet + dirty. One tap, and it’s logged.

Fix a mistake

More than one baby

With twins, or a toddler and a newborn, every entry shows which baby it belongs to. When more than one baby is tracked and you don’t say which, Amber asks “Which baby?”. It never guesses. Twins can feed at the same time.

Voice commands

Amber doesn’t use your microphone. Your phone’s assistant hears you, and Amber receives the command, logs it, and tells you it’s done.

Available now (iPhone test builds)

“Hey Siri, log a nappy in Amber.”

Siri logs a wet nappy. If you track more than one baby, Siri asks which one first. If you’re signed out, Siri asks you to open Amber and sign in.

Coming before launch

Feeds, sides and sleep by voice, on iPhone and Android. These are the commands we’re building. The exact words may change, and this guide will list them once they work.

On your watch

The Apple Watch and Wear OS apps are coming before launch. They’re a remote for what you do most: start and stop a feed, switch sides, start and stop a sleep, and log a nappy, each with one tap and without scrolling. The running timer is always on your wrist.

No signal, and sharing

Amber saves every entry on your phone first, so you can log with no signal. If it can’t sync, it says “Couldn’t sync just now. Your changes are saved on this device and we’ll try again automatically.”, and it does.

Everyone in your family sees the same record on their own phone. Inviting a partner or carer from the app is coming soon.
